Brighton City Guide

In Brigton you will find busy cafes, boutique shops and views out to the sea. This large town is best explored at a strolling pace. A maze of winding cobbled streets, Brighton’s historic quarter offers an eclectic mix of antique and jewellery shops alongside contemporary and designer boutique fashion.

Brighton’s top attractions:

The Royal Pavilion
Take a moment to relax in the tearoom balcony that overlooks the gardens of the Royal Pavilion, a palace placed in the heart of the city. The Royal Pavilion gardens have been restored to their original Regency splendour and in the summer months they feature fifteen varieties of rose.
Entrance to the pavilion costs £9.50 for adults, £7.50 concessions.

Brighton Seafront
Enjoy a stroll along the Brighton’s pebbled seafront whilst eating a traditional English supper of fish and chips. In summer there are plenty of live music events to keep you entertained, most of which can be enjoyed for free if you do not mind watching from a far.

South Downs Way
The South Downs is one of Britains national parks and consists of 100 miles of natural beauty, wildlife and heritage. Plan a section to walk on the 160 km-long South Downs Way, which traces the old routes along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the downs. This undulating track provides an excellent trip for long distance riders as well as walkers. Expect to see important ancient woodlands, open heathland and rolling downlands which lead to the iconic sheer cliffs at Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.

Parham House Gardens
Enjoy the tranquil grounds of Parham House. Set in the heart of a medieval deer park below the South Downs, this beautiful Elizabethan house dates from 1577. The award-winning four acre walled gardens contain colourful herbaceous borders, an orchard, greenhouse, vegetable and herb gardens, together with a 1920's Wendy House. The adjoining Pleasure Grounds contain a lake and a brick and turf maze.

North Laine
The colourful patchwork of streets to the south east of Brighton station provides an ideal spot for people watching in the sun. The cobbled pedestrian lanes are littered with cafes and delicatessens offering generous outdoor seating. Home to over 300 unique shops in less than half a square mile, the North Laine also contains a host of independent retailers where you’ll find anything and everything from 50's kitsch to vegetarian friendly shoes.

Brighton Pier
The Palace Pier is ideal for entertaining children. The Grade II listed building is buzzing with arcades, bumper cars, fun slides, roller coasters and ice-cream stalls. For the ultimate thrill take to the Super Booster ride which lifts passengers 38m above the sea and drops through the air at 60mph. Rides are open after 5pm, weather permitting. Visit on a Thursday for two for one prices.

Take a dip in the sea
Although Brighton’s beaches consist of pebbles, that’s no excuse to not have a dip in the sea. The best place to do so is just off Hove Lawns.
