Being the capital city of England, London has a huge amount to see and do. It is possible to spend weeks in the city and this would only scratch the surface. The upcoming London 2012 Olympics will attract thousands of visitors from around the globe, making it a fantastic opportunity for London to show off what has to offer.
If you are staying in London for the first time then we recommend the following popular tourist attractions:
Tate Modern
This has to be one of the most popular modern art galleries in the world. The Tate Modern has a free permanent exhibition of artists including Matisse, Picasso, Dalí and Warhol.
Madame Tussauds
This famous attraction started in 1802. Expect to meet a few stars on your walk around, including your royal highness, the Queen and that slightly famous singer you may have heard of, Michael Jackson.
Tower of London
Beware of the Tower of London with its bloody history of prison life and the ghosts that roam the grounds at night. If you are brave enough to step in, then you can behold the sparkling sight if the Crown Jewels, but don’t be tempted to take them as you might be spending longer in the tower than you wished for.
The London Eye
Take a trip to the London Eye for the most breath taking views of London. At the top of the wheel you can see for 40km on a good day. Queuing can be extensive at peak times in the year however, so try and get there early in the day to avoid them and generally mornings tend to be less cloudy than afternoons which will make for better views.
The National Gallery
Feast your eyes on amazing masterpieces with one of the best collections of Western European art on the planet. Expect works from Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Cézanne, Caravaggio, Canaletto and Titian, One of the crowd’s favorites is Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
